The film stars Dennis Quaid and James Caviezel as father and son, Frank and John Sullivan respectively. It was filmed in Toronto and New York City. The film gained mostly favorable reviews following its release via DVD format on October 31, 2000.

Sang Pemimpi (The Dreamer) is a 2009 Indonesian film adaptation of Laskar Pelangi tetralogy second novel, Sang Pemimpi, by Andrea Hirata. The film was directed by Riri Riza with producer Mira Lesmana.

Planned to begin shooting in Belitung (Belitong, in the local language) on July 1, 2009 and scheduled for completion on August 21, 2009, andwill be conducted at several locations in Manggar, Tanjung Pandan,Jakarta and Bogor. The film is scheduled to be aired in theaters in Indonesia began December 17, 2009.

The Dreamer will be the opening film in the Jakarta International Film Festival (JiFFest) 2009 on December 4, 2009, and became the first Indonesian film to be the first opener since JiFFest in 1999. Sang Pemimpi is the second best-selling movie in Indonesia2009 with a total audience of 1.9 million.

It was released on December 19, 2008, opening at #1 at the box office in its first weekend with $18.3 million and was then released on December 26, 2008 in the United Kingdom going straight to the top of the box office in its first weekend after release. Production for the film began in October 2007 in Los Angeles, CA.
